RapStudy Introduction Video (2020)
In October of 2020 I was approached by rapStudy, an ed tech startup lead by students at Cornell, to animate an intro video for their company. They wanted a short film that focused on building a world around these characters, while educating the viewer on what their services provide. I worked with their music team and writers to produce this short which premiered in January of 2021. I lead all visual direction and concept, animated it on Procreate and After Effects, and directed a small team of assistant color artists and background designer.
Behind the Scenes
We went through many stages of visual development, but landed on something that utilized a lot of purples, blues, and gradients to keep with the graphic design of their website.
This sequence on the desk is one of my favorites; each shot represents a rapStudy team member working in their respective softwares (Designing merch in Photoshop, coding, making music in Ableton)
Final Render
After Effects 3D View
A favorite scene of mine is the final car scene with Reza and his mom. This was put together using the 3D camera tools in After Effects, where each 2D layer is animated in 3D space to get the effect of their car driving through the scene. The background is a looping texture that was animated at an angle to create the visual of it moving backward.
